GRN 7201 Psychopharmacology for the Advanced Practice Nurse Across the Lifespan

This course examines neuroscience and psychopharmacology to provide an in-depth understanding of pharmacologic management in the treatment of psychiatric-mental health conditions. Students will explore the principles, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of psychotropic medications, gaining the knowledge necessary to make evidence-based clinical decisions. Topics presented will include medication indications, side effects, drug interactions, and adherence challenges, with attention to genomic influences on treatment response. Students will further examine the role of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in ensuring compliance with regulations, standards of care, and prescriptive authority guidelines in clinical practice.

Prerequisite

Acceptance into the PMHNP Program. GRN 7201 and GRN 7202 must be taken in the same semester. GRN 7101, GRN 7103 and GRN 7104 must be successfully completed prior to enrollment in this course.
