This course explores the dynamic field of psychiatric-mental health care across the lifespan, examining a broad spectrum of psychiatric-mental health conditions and therapeutic interventions. Utilizing an interdisciplinary and holistic approach, students will develop evidence-based assessment and intervention skills to treat psychiatric-mental health conditions at all stages of life from infancy through older adulthood. The course emphasizes primary prevention, health promotion, early identification, and management of psychiatric disorders, integrating advanced health assessment and differential diagnostic reasoning. Students will also examine the role of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), with a focus on ethical and legal responsibilities, scope of practice across diverse settings, and regulatory considerations. Concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, and the impact of social determinants of health are interwoven throughout the course to support culturally responsive and person-centered care.
